My present appointment is as Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon to the
Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the University
Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. I have nineteen years
experience as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.
I have an extensive clinical practice in arthritis surgery, rheumatoidsurgery and joint replacement.
In my clinical work I also see patients with back pain and sciatica and Iundertake lumbar spine surgery. In my clinical research work I wasresponsible for the recent development of the computer interview systemfor back pain we use at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.
I have a strong background in Orthopaedic research with over 30publications in learned journals in both clinical and basic science researchincluding bioengineering. This work was recognised by my appointment as Visiting Professor by thedepartment of Engineering at Cranfield University.
I have served as the Medical Director of the Royal Orthopaedic HospitalNHS Trust and I am now a member of the professional practice committeeof The British Orthopaedic Association, which gives means I have expertisein clinical governence and risk management.
I have served on Department of Health groups on surgical instrumentdecontamination and operating theatre microbiology testing.
I engage in orthopaedic private practice at the Priory Hospital,Birmingham and the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.
I have a medico-legal private practice which is approximately an equalmixture of plaintiff and defendant work and some joint instructions Iaccept around 200 new instructions per year.
I have experience of giving evidence in clinical negligence cases for theMedical Protection Society and the CNST.
I have experience of giving evidence in Court in personal injury claims andin attending the Coroner’s Court in relation both to my trauma practice andon behalf of the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust.
I have experience in presenting evidence to enquiries and tribunals and Ihave radio and television experience in health matters.
